The Australian Institute of Music was founded in Australia in 1983 and is currently under the Artistic guidance of Ashok Roy, world leading exponent of the Indian Sarod. The aim of the institute is to further the music of Asia in Australia through regular performances, teaching and social events. Although it is not intended to be an umbrella group for Asian cultural organisations, it has established links with many of the Asian cultural groups in NSW, providing information to it’s own members about their activities, and visa versa. The institute also organises concerts involving these other groups.
Membership is open to anyone living in Australia. Membership of the AIEM provides you with benefits such as discount for tickets to concerts and the festival, Regular Newsletter with information about forthcoming events, a Sydney Asian music and dance calender, reviews of CD’s and general discussion on various aspects of Asian music and dance, and Participation in regular social events (Mehfils).
